If you’ve been following along with our family devotionals, you can definitely start to see some themes: obedience and sharing! I mean…we’ve got a three year old, people!! Ha! This week’s devotional we discussed Philippians 2:3-4 about considering others as more important than ourselves.
Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Philippians 2:3-4
This devotional was a little non-traditional for us: we had it in the car, on the way to a friend’s house. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it seemed to go despite being in the car! It made me think about the verse in Deuteronomy 6:7 when God says to impress these things on our children…to talk about His commands at home, on the road, when you’re sitting, when you’re lying down, and so on. Well, we implemented that here!
Lately, as Justus has become more mobile and grabby, Finn has been a lot more protective of his toys. Today we discussed this verse, and referred back to other scriptures we’ve talked about in the past (such as how it’s better to give as well as last week’s verse on treating others the way you want to be treated).
Maybe it’s because we were in the car and he was strapped into his car seat, but Finn seemed VERY attentive in our discussion. He was more quiet than he typically is but seemed thoughtful. When I referenced last week’s verse, he responded with: “Oh yeah!” and that encouraged me.
I know we will probably be talking about sharing and being considerate until the end of time, but I’m really so grateful that we have the Bible as our foundation. We can see so clearly God’s heart for us to consider one another and share with each other. It’s not only good for Finn – but for me too!
