So you want to prioritize your husband and pray for him more – but what should you pray exactly? Here are some scriptures to pray over for your husband as well as a printable prayer prompt at the end with daily verses to pray. You can also check out this post by My Joy in Chaos with 50+ more scriptures to pray for your husband!

Pray for his heart for God

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

    Matthew 22:37

More than anything, we want our husbands to walk with God. Even before we pray for the “urgent” needs, let’s pray for the most important ones: his relationship with God.

Lord, help my husband to love you with all of his heart, with all of his soul and with all of his mind. I pray that he can love you more than anything and walk with you daily.

Pray for him to walk in the light

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light… and find out what pleases the Lord.

    Ephesians 5:8-10

Satan wants us to fall into sin and stay there, to hide in the darkness and be ashamed. But Jesus has purified us and welcomes us into the light with open arms! Let’s pray for our husbands to walk in Jesus’s light and to find out what pleases God.

Lord, I pray that my husband will live in Your light, that Satan will not overwhelm him with darkness and that he will fight against sin. I pray that when he falls into sin, that he will confess it and not let his shame enslave him. Help him to enjoy his freedom in Jesus and to love being in the light with you. I pray that he can live as a true child of your light and find out what is pleasing to You.

    Pray for his friendships

Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm.

    Proverbs 13:20

Let’s just be honest here for a minute: oftentimes men have a harder time developing and keeping deep friendships than we do! As women, we’re just more naturally relational beings. I’ve seen that it’s much harder to keep iron-sharpening friendships with the craziness of work and having small children, but it’s so vital to our spiritual well-being! Even just one or two ride-or-die friendships during this stage in life can be the difference between disaster and peace.

Father, please help my husband to have friendships that are deep, honest and that help point him to you. I pray that he can prioritize those relationships, see his need for them and fight for them. Help him to walk with the wise, and not be drawn to fools. If he doesn’t have those friends in his life, I pray that you will guide him to men who love you and will help to protect him from Satan.

    Pray for his work

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

    Colossians 3:23

I’ve noticed two extremes with work: that people are either obsessed and selfishly ambitious, or they are lazy and careless. Wherever your husband falls on that spectrum, pray for him.

Father, I pray that my husband can excel at his work while also prioritizing you and his family. Help him to work with all of his heart as if he were working for you. I pray for guidance with his career, that you will give him wisdom with his decision making. Help him to be a light at his workplace, that people will see him and his life and be drawn to you.

Pray for the unity of your marriage

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

    Genesis 2:24

God created marriage for a husband and wife to be one with each other. You and your husband are a team, the O.G. Family Unit – before and beyond even your children. But Satan hates unity and harmony and wants to do whatever he can to disrupt that. Sisters, we need to pray for God’s power to work in our marriages so that we can overcome Satan’s attacks!

Lord, help me and my husband to be one with each other. I pray for us to connect with one another, prioritize each other, truly listen to one another and love the other above ourselves. I pray that the things of this world and even our children will not come between us. Help us to see Satan’s attacks and triumph over them. I pray that our intimacy can be fulfilling and consistent. Help us to always be faithful to You and to each other.

Pray for his leadership of your family

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

    Ephesians 6:4

It’s hard work bringing up a family. And as the head of the family, your husband is responsible for training and instructing your children. That’s a big task! As hard as it is on us moms on a daily basis, we need to be praying for our husbands even more to have wisdom and strength to lead our families toward God.

Lord, please help my husband as he leads our family. I pray for wisdom and guidance for him as he trains and instructs our children and leads our family where we need to go. Help me to submit to his leadership and have the wisdom and humility to call him higher when he needs it. Father, please lead our family through my husband and help us to all draw closer to You.

Ask your husband: what can I pray about for you?

There’s approximately a kazillion other topics and scriptures to pray about for our husbands – not least of all his health, his purity, his handling of finances, his evangelism, serving the poor/downtrodden, his understanding of the gospel, etc. I highly recommend reading The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian. Tyler has asked me to get this book for every new wife I know because he thinks this book changed him – by me praying for him!! How crazy is that?!

For this last prayer prompt, ask your husband what you can be praying about for him. Then, I encourage you to try to find a scripture on that topic and pray that verse for your husband. For example, if your husband is worried about something at work, you can pray 1 Peter 5:7 for him. Or if he wants to lose weight and get healthy, you could pray for him to glorify God with his body (1 Corinthians 6:20).

I’ve put together this printable prayer prompt with one verse per day so you can pray through these verses on a daily basis for your husband. You can print this and put it on your mirror, fridge, or car dash to remind you to pray for your hubby!
